On construction jobsites, the 950 GC caterpillar wheel loader excels at site prep, cleanup, backfilling and when equipped with pallet forks or a material handling arm, medium-duty pipe and other material handling. Operator Environment

Comfort and efficiency in one ergonomic package.
Controls and Display

Easy to operate, the pilot-operated hydraulic implement controls deliver comfortable, low-effort operation.

Two single axis levers or a joystick are available. Both arrangements are equipped with a remote kick-down switch. The joystick also features an F-N-R switch. The adjustable steering column includes the turn signal control lever and the manual shifter.

The dashboard display contains 5 analog-like gauges, several colored indicator lights and an LCD screen. This intuitive system allows the operator to monitor the machine's systems.


The wide, flat, distortion-free front windshield offers an unmatched viewing area. The glass, in fact, stretches to the floor of the cab for excellent visibility to the bucket. Rain-directing channels on the cab roof and front and back wipers keep the windows clear and ensure a clear view even when it is pouring buckets!

Standard internal and external rearview mirrors and an optional rearview camera to clearly monitor movement behind the vehicle complete the package.

Climate Control
A standard air conditioning system with ten louvered vents allow the operator to direct the air flow for optimal cab station temperature. The controls are comfortably located on the right hand console. And, the cab air filters are located in the main unit outside of the operator environment for superior filtration and easy cleaning.
The ergonomic cloth mechanical suspension seat is equipped with a variety of adjustments to suit the operator's size and weight including fore/aft, height and weight. An air suspension seat is offered as an option. The left-hand armrest and headrest are also adjustable.
Entry and Exit
The platforms are easily accessed through ladders available on both sides of the machine. The platforms are also equipped with guard and hand rails for safe access to the cab. The main cab door opens to the front and provides wide access to the operator environment.

Power Train

Cat C7.1 Engine
Powered by a StageIIIA (Tier 3) emission standard-compliant Cat C7.1 engine, the 950GC also features a fuel-injection system specifically designed for fuel available in emerging markets. Also, the Engine Idle Management System (EIMS) minimizes fuel consumption by reducing engine rpm after a specified amount of idle time.
On-Demand Fan
The hydraulically driven, electronically controlled variable speed fan adjusts to meet the varying cooling requirements of the machine. This reduces average fan speed resulting in lower fuel consumption, noise levels and radiator plugging. In very cold operating conditions, an optional fan drive bypass valve allows the machine systems to warm up faster to operating temperatures.

Designed and built by Caterpillar, the power-shift countershaft transmission features high contact ratio gears meaning that there are always up to three teeth in contact. These heat-treated gears are complemented by heavy duty bearings that make this transmission durable and fuel-efficient while also lowering low noise and vibration levels during operation.

The transmission is commanded by the proven Cat Electronic Long Range Transmission (ELRT) control valve, which allows full-power shifts and directional shift changes. The fully modulated shifts ensure smoothness of operation and contribute significantly to fast cycles and extended component life.

Heavy-duty axles with inboard-planetary final drives and specially heat-treated bevel gears feature hydraulically actuated wet-disc brakes. Limited-slip differentials are also available for applications where increased traction is required.

To ensure safety and convenience for both operators and service technicians, the hydraulic and electrical service centers have been grouped to provide ground-level access to numerous maintenance and service points. These are conveniently located under the access ladders on each side of the machine.
Grease Points
To enable easy and quick preventive lubrication, grease fittings for difficult-to-reach components have been grouped together.

Performance Series Buckets

To enable short load times, high fill factors ranging from 100% to 115% and better material retention, Performance Series Buckets feature an optimized shape, longer floor, curved side walls and a wider opening. Principle at work: load easy and carry more!

A unique spill guard protects the cab and linkage components from material overflow. This design results in safer operation, reduced cycle times, lower fuel consumption and overall higher productivity.

Z-bar Linkage
The 950 GC linkage generates excellent breakout force and good rack back angle for better bucket loading and load retention. Lift arms provide excellent dump clearance and reach for exceptional matching to various truck body heights. The linkage also enables adjustment of the lift and return-to-dig positions.
Load Sensing Hydraulics
Flow and pressure for the implement system are produced only when required resulting in improved machine productivity and low fuel consumption. Operators will also notice an excellent power balance between rimpull and implements.
Ride Control
The optional Ride Control System improves ride, load retention and performance when traveling over rough terrain. Operators gain confidence moving at higher speeds in load-and-carry operations resulting in reduced cycle times and higher productivity.

Fusion™ Quick Coupler

The Fusion Quick Coupler System provides a common interface across a range of medium and small wheel loaders. It allows one work tool to be picked up by the entire range of medium and small wheel loaders enabling efficiencies across your fleet.

With a Fusion Coupler, performance is virtually identical to pin-on attachments. The coupler sits back, close into the loader arms - enabling increased machine performance and minimizing offset.

An advanced wedging mechanism creates a tight, rattle-free fit resulting in a longer coupler and attachment service life. An open coupler frame design clears sight lines from the operator’s seat to the load. Loading and unloading can be done confidently and quickly while still providing good visibility to both the tool and the load.
