Perkins Worldwide Conference – India on “imperative” focus list

At the Perkins Worldwide Distributor Conference at Barcelona, Spain, held between November 1 and 4, 2010, distributors world over gathered to assimilate worldwide strategy and to brainstorm business plans for their respective regions. The conference gained significance since it was the first time in a decade that it was being held.

Mr H Jayaram, Executive Director & CEO, Gmmco Ltd., and Mr T K Vishwanath, Business Head, represented Gmmco Power at the conference.

Vishwanath, Business Head, Gmmco Power, Mr. Ennodio Ramos (Managing Director – Sales & Marketing)

The three-day meet focused on Perkins' strategy for the coming years, and an introduction of their new and unique business model, “Seed, Grow, Harvest”. The meetings also highlighted Perkins' Vision 2020 strategy cascade and laid down 8 Imperatives for their plans 2011-2015:

2011-2015 IPSD Imperatives

  • Deliver Customer Valued Solutions

  • Grow Profitably and Sustainably

  • Transform Business Processes

  • Build Personal Capability and Accountability

  • Maximise Profitability and OPACC

  • Win In China

  • Expand In India

Asia-Pacific focus

The Asia-Pacific focus of Perkins came out strongly at the conference. Over the next five years, Perkins expects to more than double Engine Sales in the Asia-Pacific region from the current USD 300 Million levels to over USD 770 Million. This business expansion will result due to renewed Asia-Pacific thrust in Perkins' 2011-2015 policy articulated as follows:

  • Win in China

  • Expand strategically in India

  • Deliver Customer Valued Solutions

  • Grow Profitably and Sustainably

In the brainstorming session to discuss modalities of the business plan, issues such as pricing, competition, lead-times for delivery and quality, were discussed threadbare. All these issues affect customers directly and it was heartening to note the frank discussions on these issues to ensure customer delight in every aspect of Perkins service.

The focus on India at the conference is of course most significant for Gmmco Power and our Indian customers. It shows Perkins' ever-deepening interest in India and will no doubt result in renewed investments and infrastructure within the country to serve Indian businesses better.
